BMW 3 Series ECU Failure
The MOTRONIC engine computer unit ECU often suffers from water damage. Most times, this water damage is caused by a blockage in the heater fresh air drainage hose. Leaves and other particles accumulate over time and block this hose which cause water to build up and flood the ECU compartment. This results in water damage to the ECU and eventual failure.

The solution is to clean the drain pipe periodically. This can be done at the time of an annual maintenance. If the ECU becomes water damage, the best solution is to have it fixed, if possible, as soon as possible. IT is important to dry-out the ECU compartment before re-installing the ECU.
