In order to put the control unit into the programming state setup as follows:
Ignition: ON
Left display “HI”
Right display “LO”
Ignition: OFF
Press and hold the REST button and simultaneously switch ignition: ON
Display, left “P1” (first value) right side is the version coding value. Adjust this value with the right-side red/blue temp up/down buttons.
Store the first value by pressing the EC button for greater than 1 second.
Press the EC button again and advance to the P2 value.
The procedure is the same for the P2 value.
Cars manufactured up to 05/96 used a separate engine coolant sensor wired to the pushbutton control unit for ECT information. Subsequent models used a serial link K1, or K1 and K2 between the instrument cluster and the pushbutton unit.
If you have a problem with engine coolant temperature data or nighttime illumination with the push button you do not have the K1 and K2 values programmed correctly.
